Twitter has suspended the official account of U.S. House Rep Jim Banks (R-IN) after he called transgender female and Biden official Rachel Levine a man.
In a tweet from his personal account, Banks declared, “Twitter has suspended my official account for posting a statement of FACT. I won’t back down. I’ll be posting on my personal account for the time being.”
“Big Tech must be held accountable!” Banks insisted in the tweet as well.
“The title of first female four-star officer gets taken by a man,” Banks said in the tweet that has now been removed by the platform.
Banks has yet to delete the tweet from his account, which has over 76k followers and will remain locked out until he does, barring some sort of intervention.
In a statement on Tuesday morning, the day that Banks made the tweet which led to his suspension, the Biden administration claimed, “Admiral Levine now serves as the highest ranking official in the USPHS Commissioned Corps and its first-ever female four-star admiral.”
The New York Times also touted the same claim in a tweet of their article on the matter later in the day. That tweet was badly ratioed by those questioning the claim.
Banks also released a statement of his own where he declared, “My tweet was a statement of fact. Big Tech doesn’t have to agree with me but they shouldn’t be able to cancel me.”
“When Republicans take back the House next year, we must restore honesty to public forums and hold Big Tech accountable,” Banks added.
